Enfolding
This luminous being shimmers as if in the glow of an embrace, it’s vitality sparkling and twirling. I’m fascinated by how its upper “loop” forms a portal. Maybe we’re being invited to send our dreams through the portal, to be embraced and invigorated.
For the pieces in this series, “Beings of Color and Light,” I combine colored pencils, pastels, Inktense and watercolor washes, because they create a delicate translucence, allowing me to layer vibrant tones, while creating smooth gradients and transitions.

As I compose the “beings” in this series, in my mind I listen to them tell me (without words) about themselves. It’s difficult to describe this internal process because it involves senses that we don’t often use day-to-day. I summon a state of "betweenness," seeing with eyes that look beyond what I know. I then use color, light, shadow, and shape to give them visual life. Each piece involves a multi-stepped process of listening, meditation, dreaming, sketching, several AI tools, and Photoshop compositing. Then I draw and paint by hand using ink, pencil, chalk, pastel, and charcoal. When finished, I feel like I’ve spent intimate time with a dear, close friend, and I’ve changed: I have expanded and become more because of our time together.
