When this coil began in the sketchbook, I was hesitant and almost abandoned it. As I deepend the colors, and worked with the coils, it came alive. Now it’s one of my favorites, reminding me to keep going, even when I doubt myself.
Original Medium: Pastel, charcoal, colored pencil, ink on paper. 10" x 8”
As I compose the “beings” in this series, In my mind I listen to them tell me (without words) about themselves. It’s difficult to describe this internal process because it involves senses that we don’t often use day-to-day. Therefore I use color, light, shadow, and shape to give them a visual life. Each piece involves a complex, multi-stepped process of meditation, dreaming, sketching, several A.I. tools, and Photoshop compositing. Then I draw and paint by hand using ink, pencil, chalk, pastel, and charcoal. When finished, I feel like I’ve spent intimate time with a dear, close friend, and I’ve changed: I have become more because of our time together.
