I love astronomy and playfully consider myself a “Junior Astronomer.” Venus captivates my imagination because it’s so close to us, and it’s the hottest of our solar system’s planets. Because of its heat, it’s perpetually shrouded in thick, yellow clouds of sulfuric acid. In this painting I used the hot portion of our visible color spectrum to inspire these curves and waves of fiery yellows, oranges, and reds as they flare across the canvas.

I begin my paintings and drawings by inviting creativity and color into meditation, where we discuss (without words) what we’re going to create. I focus on the feelings I want to evoke, and then ask color and creativity how they would like to move, take form and shape, and work with me to express beauty.
